In the Feature Films category, 419 Films were received for screening this year. After 45 days of film screening, the eminent Jury, constituted by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, selected films under various categories are: –

Under the category of Best Writing on Cinema, The best book received the award is Mouna Prathanapole (Malayalam) written by Swarna Kamal.

The Most Friendly Film State (MFFS) has been awarded to the State of Uttarakhand for furthering the growth of the film industry.

Brief Facts about the National Film Award

The National Film Award was constituted in 1954 in order to promote the talents of the Film Industries across India and to encourage the furthering of Indian art and culture.

There are two main categories – Feature Films and Non-feature Films. However, the award is divided into three Sections – Feature films, Non-feature Films and Best Writing on Cinema.

  1. Feature films are the main films presented in Cinema or entertainment films or fictional films.
  2. non-feature films are documentary films or non-fictional films.

The award is given in 31 different categories of Feature films. There are 6 panels for Feature Films constituted – Central Panel; West Panel; North Panel; East Panel; South-I Panel; South-II Panel;

The award is given in 23 different categories of Non-feature films and only 1 panel of 7 eminent members is constituted.

For the category of the Best Writing on Cinema, awards are given in 2 categories, and only 1 panel of 3 members is constituted.

Further, the Most Friendly Film State (MFFS) has been constituted by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting. The MFFS Award is executed by the Film Facilitation Office (FFO) of the Ministry of I&B on behalf of the Ministry and is being given under the aegis of the National Film Awards.

How the jury is appointed

The jury is appointed by the Directorate of Film Festivals in India. There is no role of the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting in selecting the jury for the National Film Award.

Who presents the award

The award is presented by the President of India every year, at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. The list of awardees is announced by the Ministry of I&B after selection by the jury.
